I would’ve never thought 13 or 14 years ago that I would only be a mom once ~ one shot consciously chosen and where the outcome would be this beautiful being.
And, similarly, yet different at the same time, I could’ve never imagined the joy felt inside a 17-year marriage until being inside it. Another shot consciously chosen (not just when I met him while dating him or on 6.16.01, but every day anew choosing to create new things together — it may not be more babies, but there are other people and stuff to nurture and build).
I would’ve never…could’ve never…but in this lifetime, I have given myself (been given) both experiences — an only child and an only marriage — and they both have been lovely.
