A note on letting go (to college freshman parents – now that I have a month under my belt). Maybe all it really means is letting in a different kind of love.
And that’s actually awesome because it means that while they are in a big season of growing and changing, we are too, (it’s our time, too — to growww & change, we gotta keep up!)…
At first, things will feel hard because we’ve had a certain type of [say, young vs mature] love for the last 18 years, but really nothing fundamentally has changed…
Where they live has changed dramatically (hard) and how they decide to grow on their own has, too (so cool this learning about themselves thing; something only they can do!).
But love (the base of central importance) is a constant. You will always “have” them, and they will always “have” you.
Rest easy, parents, and find the letting go maybe a little easier by letting a different kind of love in.
