Gratitude Amidst Grief

When I was at the depths of my grief after losing my brother and my Mom, there were glimmers, many glimmers or breaks of a type of sun amidst the sadness that allowed me to catch my breath.

Sunny sadness…

I was grateful for those breaths, which most times came when I thought to myself, I have no regrets in my relationships with either of them.

Add to that all the awesome, dance until late in the night (and more) memories I could quickly pull up during the grief journey, reminiscing how much my heart expanded as a result of having each of them in my life, regardless how our lives together were cut short, and, you could say that gratitude was as ever-present as the grief.

Whether we know it consciously or not, I think this is what gets us to the other side [gratitude breaks…moments where life, like gold or money, appreciates as a result of having felt the cooler days and, thus, being able to compare and contrast].

And isn’t that what life is ~ a string of years and years of moments that allow us to compare and contrast (gratitude, healing, getting closer to our most prized people and relationships all come from this place of range and having felt the difference available in all of life’s experiences).

I was grateful to be on this Tulum beach with Josh two years ago, not because I got to ‘get away’ but because I created and received another golden opportunity to love fiercely, so, too, no regrets. 🙂

Thank you, thank you, thank you. This is what I say at night.

Thank you.
