For hundreds and hundreds of years, the vision quest has pointed to giving away anything you receive while you’re out there…
A year ago this week, I was nervously sitting in the passenger seat of our SUV driving up to mine.
I had never felt this rare mix of what I can only describe as healthy fear, excitement and insert word that may or may not exist that resembles excitable terror (I appreciate a good challenge).
But the hardest part wasn’t, in fact, the nots ~ the not eating, the not having shelter or the not having company…
It was leaving the unique space created for myself while out there (with the real quest, of course, being finding exactly that space in the real world even more).
As it has for many before me, the vision quest exposed each of my bodies (physical, emotional, spiritual, mental) more than most experiences have and, as a result, it was one of the top best.
All in all, what the quest shared with me was about the ability we have to return to our own inner safety and to a calmer nervous system, no matter what is going on in our lives or what or who we have or have not.
I fully (with all bodies) enjoyed my time up there, in my journal, naming it an honor to have experienced. It was exactly that.
All in all, the ability to return to that gorgeous mountain in heart and mind is and will always be one of the grandest gifts of my life — the ultimate reminder of true freedom and independence and of being the driver and decider of your life.
