How I Ended Up Here (and 3 journal questions for you)

When I was 16 or 17, I remember wanting to do a few things, or maybe it was more like dreaming about doing a few things…BEING a few things, not just ONE THING. You and I are not just one thing. We are…

Multi-passionate.
Multi-purpose.
Multi-dimensional.

  • Fashion: I wanted to be a fashion designer. I would lie on my bed and sketch dresses. I wasn’t a good drawer, but, I had the desire…and sometimes, as I’ve learned after 16 years in business and 43 years on this planet, this is enough.
  • Writing: I wanted to be a writer. I would write and write, wherever I was (and write and write some more). I remember one afternoon hanging out with my family and my Mom and brother each saying something like “Do you ever stop?” No, no, I won’t and I can’t stop (and I still write any chance I get  –  in fact, I truly feel that I’m a writer before anything else in my professional suitcase).
  • TV: I wanted to be an actress or a TV reporter. I studied the latter (Broadcast Journalism) in college and even started researching reporter jobs when I got very clear it’s not what I wanted to do…
  • People: I wanted to help people. I remember going to a used bookstore and picking up my first therapy/counseling book and being elated. I dug right in. After some research, I thought a Marriage and Family Child Counselor sounded like something that also fit my natural talents…

Beyond that, since I was just a couple years older at about 19 or 20 years old, I began reading books about death and spirituality (I lost my biological father young and that prompted my curiosity). I also loved books such as Neale Donald Walsch’s Conversations with God. Have you read it?

And then after eight very fun years in advertising in San Francisco and Los Angeles working on brands such as Starbucks, Nike, Adidas, Crystal Cruise Line, I felt done saving my inspiration for nights and weekends and found my current professional expression.

And that’s what it is…an expression (your profession is your expression, too).

I had found something  –  created something (still creating that something) — that allowed me to integrate everything…all of who I naturally was.

Bringing all my talents, multiple passions together and, ultimately, giving a nod to my deepest creativity, spirituality and desire to bring purpose and meaning to a daily professional life has been one of the greatest creative projects ever undertaken in my creative life.

Were you similar?

Most importantly, are you there now? Do you wish to create something with ALL of you?

If you’re at a 6 in terms of soulful satisfaction goes surrounding where you are professionally (purpose-fully), are you itching, like I was, to get to an 8…9…10?

If so, think about…

Creativity: What do you have to believe in order to bring more of your creative or wild ideas to life?

Spirituality: What will you do to allow yourself to express your sense of self as it relates to something bigger?

Multiple Passionate/Multiple Talents: How will you begin today to integrate more of your passions and talents to create or carve out a corner for yourself in our industry?

You are worth the focus, the reflection, and planning…

Enjoy your business, enjoy your life!

Life is good,
