Business

Your High Calling (listen to this whisper)

Whatever it is that you do for work in this world, awesome, it’s so good *and* if something else is genuinely calling you to learn about or spend a significant time on, even if it feels outside of your industry, do it.

It’s likely you’re attracted to it because the times are asking for it — plus, learning from (growing from) distinct industries isss part of what helps us uniquely grow personally or professionally.

It’s called listening to the whisper, to purposeful learning or straight up purpose or the high call or calling.

Anything that moves your heart and is “keeping up” with the times in terms of the emotional and spiritual needs of the human will not only make you better at what you do, but will likely help you understand humans and be a better one.

We need that (need you).

That’s the high call for us all, really, to better ourselves.

Skinny Dipping 💦

Josh landed an hour ago and I’m taking off in an hour (drove to the airport, pulled up to Alaska departures level with four minutes to kiss and say hi)…⁣

I love this time of prep to leave for another ecopsychology apprenticeship weekend because I get to completely take off the make up, the “working“ clothes, the cell phone, computer etc, stripping down both physically and emotionally.⁣

This is one of the things I love most about being in nature, in general, and that I’ve loved of the trek trips I’ve done with Josh over the last 20 years. I take the make up off and most times don’t change clothes, yet feel completely beautified. ⁣

Like I said weeks ago, don’t be fooled ~ just because some of us (many of us) wear the heels or the make up, doesn’t mean that’s all we are or that it best expresses who we are — or that we‘d prefer it…⁣

In fact, what we would prefer, is that exact stripping down of exactly what we look like when we wake UP, because it exposes or matches/aligns with more of our who we are reallllly emotionally or spiritually. So many of us, woman or man, are hungry for that exposure, that honesty or realness.⁣

It’s this real self, the one who comparison, social media, smoothing or thinning filters, magazines or weight scales try to say isn’t good enough (or that we take that way).⁣

So many of us are more comfortable without the pretty powder (unless it’s the dusty kind that gets hands appropriately dirty). ⁣

I, for one, love my natural manicures, those that include dirt inside the nails, specifically (I’ll never forget the first day of vision quest before we went on our solo journeys telling one of the others exactly that, and immediately putting my hands on the ground and moving them all around)…⁣

I’ll be guiding solo journeys and one full day with participants tomorrow to do a little bit or a lot of the above, to strip down.  ⁣

There’s no skinny-dipping involved this time (though it was on vision quest 😉) unless you call looking inwardly as far and as honestly as possible, exactly that.⁣

And it kind of is —

Video of my Vision Quest

More than it was ever nerve-racking, my nine day vision quest in July [part of a ecopsychology apprenticeship, something I can’t wait to bring into my success coaching practice] was an honor to experience…

Another piece I was grateful for was having a camera to record questions, musings or other shares like this one to Josh and Nolan (I did also record others for public viewing, which I’ll share more of now that I’ve settled into a new normal with this work, both in my everyday personal life and ramping up into it professionally, too).

I may not have had shelter, food or social interaction, but being able to record ideas and thoughts on camera as well as on paper (never written so fast in my life) felt necessary.

At sunset each night — at 8:19pm — Josh said, we’ll be praying for you.🧡️ That’s what he shared seconds before he and Nolan drove away after dropping me off with my guides 4.5 hours away.

I felt intense emotion in that moment hearing those words, knowing what I was about to go do…I felt deep love, immense gratitude, more nerves and an intense missing energy I’ve never felt before (and that’s with having traveled far away by myself and for long periods at least once or twice a year).

As close to that time as I could every night, I would look out at the same sky they were looking at and thank them.

We are strong beings…stronger than we think (cue video) and, yes, we can definitely survive on our own, coach ourselves to safety and/or to a calm nervous system.

We can survive a vision quest or make it through grief or through a divorce or other challenge, whatever it is, *and* the bottom line is that we also need others.

For a better everythingggg we need others ~ for better mental and physical health, for safety, for better ideas, for greater growth etc.

It was amazing how bolstered or supported I felt knowing Josh and Nolan were thinking about me at that time everyday and that I could connect with them ~ look at the sky and “there” they are.

I felt as powered up when I walked up the mountain each morning to a middle point to an agreed-upon stone pile.

Once there, I was to create a small rock formation to let my stone pile buddy know I was well/#alive (many traditions and peoples have done this in their own versions of a vision quest and it was beautiful and such moving to experience it each morning).

I was simultaneously tired (because ~> no food) making the mini trek and I was also so moved…so charged at the same time.

Connection. We genuinely feed or receive more from that than we do actual food.

I learned or re-learned many things (like the above) while on the vision quest, but for today, I’ll share this one — as moms, we act as a big and glorious fireplace in our homes and the more we go and bring new things back for all to use as kindling, the the brighter and bigger the connected family fire burns…  💫🔥

She Let Go

Enjoy one of my favorite poems of all times…here’s to giving yourself the gift of letting go…

There’s only one guru ~ you.
She Let Go

She let go. Without a thought or a word, she let go.
She let go of fear. She let go of the judgments.
She let go of the confluence of opinions swarming around her head.
She let go of the committee of indecision within her.
She let go of all the ‘right’ reasons. Wholly and completely,
without hesitation or worry, she just let go.
She didn’t ask anyone for advice. She didn’t read a
book on how to let go… She didn’t search the scriptures.
She just let go.

She let go of all of the memories that held her back.
She let go of all of the anxiety that kept her from moving forward.
She let go of the planning and all of the calculations about how to do it just right.
She didn’t promise to let go.
She didn’t journal about it.
She didn’t write the projected date in her day-timer.
She made no public announcement and put no ad in the paper.
She didn’t check the weather report or read her daily horoscope.
She just let go.

She didn’t analise whether she should let go.
She didn’t call her friends to discuss the matter.
She didn’t do a five-step Spiritual Mind Treatment.
She didn’t call the prayer line.
She didn’t utter one word. She just let go.
No one was around when it happened.
There was no applause or congratulations.
No one thanked her or praised her.
No one noticed a thing.

Like a leaf falling from a tree, she just let go.
There was no effort. There was no struggle.
It wasn’t good and it wasn’t bad.
It was what it was, and it is just that.
In the space of letting go, she let it all be.
A small smile came over her face.
A light breeze blew through her.
And the sun and the moon shone forevermore.
